WISE Demo System Performance

A summary of the WISE demonstration system performance over 12-month cycle is presented below. The actual daily data can be downloaded as an excel sheet for further study..

Wind and Solar Generation

Energy generated by wind and solar components of the hybrid system has been recorded regularly since September 1, 2008, The data logger has been set to a sampling interval of 10-minutes. The maximum, minimum, average and standard deviation of all electrical variables is continuously stored in the database. The summary of electric generation over 12-month cycle starting from September 1, 2008 is shown in the chart below. The wind and solar generation occurred each month is divided by the number of days in that month to obtain the daily average values. Because the wind turbine is rated 1.8-kW and the PV array is rated 2-kW, the daily generation is normalized for 1-kW rated power for each. The expressions used to calculate the normalized daily averages are below:

(Daily Normalized Wind Energy) = (Monthly Wind Energy Generation)/(Number of days x 1.8)

(Daily Normalized PV Energy) = (Monthly PV Energy Generation)/(Number of days x 2

Wind Speed Distribution

Wind speed and direction recorded between March 1, 2008 and February 28, 2009 are presented in form of wind-rose and distribution charts. Wind data have been collected by NRG data logger and sensors located at 33 ft height on the 45 ft tower of the Skystream 3.7..
